About Coach Espi

Welcome Friends!

My name is David Espinoza, but all my friends call me Espi or Coach Espi.

I am a Certified Mental Performance Mastery Coach with over 20 years of team and personal coaching experience at the rec, high school, travel and collegiate levels.

After moving from California to Massachusetts in 2021, and going through some pretty life altering medical procedures, I decided to get back to doing what I love, giving back to my community by helping shape young women & men through sport! In 2022, I decided to shift my main focus from on field coaching to helping student-athletes attack the mental aspect of sports. I’ve had a lot of success helping young athletes in the mental performance area in the past, but I really wanted to strengthen my skills to better help student-athletes understand the why’s, to understand themselves and to develop the skills to improve their mental performance. It was then I discovered Brian Cain's The 10 Pillars of Mental Performance Mastery, a comprehensive system that covers everything from mindset, goal setting, mental imagery to self-awareness and resilience. not only obtained new, and sharpened old, necessary skills to help student-athletes to learn to be more successful on and off the field, but I learned so much more about me, my life, my marriage, my parenting and my coaching! It was so inspiring that I decided to take Brian Cain's Mental Performance Mastery Coaches Certification Course, because I wanted to go from temporary to legendary, to be more juiceful and useful to those I love, to those I lead and to those I will lead! Because it had to be in me before it’s in what I do!

My style? I strive to provide a real life, genuine and honest approach when it comes to mental performance training! It’s an approach that I have found that student-athletes need and really do appreciate.

I believe it’s my responsibility to help set student-athletes up for success after they’ve left the walls of security that we call school…because not everyone gets a trophy, life isn’t always easy and it’s not always rainbows and butterflies. But it can be a little easier when they understand how to better react in times of adversity and to turn those tough times into learning moments, so they’re better equipped for next time.

Why do I do this? I do this because I needed me when I was younger! I struggled with mental performance/toughness when I was a student-athlete, and even at times as a coach. So, being able to learn from someone who struggled, failed & can relate to you and your athletes is a powerful tool for you to have in your Life's Toolbox.

Remember earlier when I stated that it had to be in me before it was in what I do? Well, that's why I teach these specific techniques...because it's who I've become! The Mental Performance Mastery Certification changed me as a person! I have more clarity, I'm more impactful, more juiceful and much more energetic about life!

So, now, it’s my obligation to educate, energize and empower student-athletes to expand their potential by training them to be mentally strong in times of adversity on the field. Which will most definitely benefit them off the field.
